Special Education and Mental Health Services launched a new program—Urban Systems of Care, in 1999 for the purpose of providing prevention services to help build and maintain mental health. Administered in conjunction with the Centre’s Adult and Youth Services department, the program offers professional, on-site assistance to the residents of Ida B. Wells and Lake Parc Place housing developments. Urban Systems of Care is designed to build and strengthen families by using community resources.

 

URBAN SYSTEMS OF CARE


Urban Systems of Care—Services for Youth, ages 3 to 14, who live in the Chicago Housing Authority Developments of Lake Parc Place and Ida B. Wells. USC provides Referrals, Linkages and Support Services to the youth as well as their families.

What is Urban Systems of Care?
Urban Systems of Care (USC) is a program offering Professional Assistance with an array of services; Cultural Outings, School Advocacy and referrals to food, clothing and housing. It is designed to build and strengthen families using community resources.

What is its purpose?
The purpose of this program is to provide family and community support services. These may include services addressing Health Issues, Stress Management, Conflict Resolution, Home and Personal Management Skills, as well as Child Developmental Difficulties. The goal is to assist residents with any issues that they may feel is a concern, and to teach them to utilize their community resources.

Who is eligible for this program?
If you are a resident of Ida B. Wells or Lake Parc Place housing developments, and have at least one child in the family between the ages of 3 and 14. Applicants can call our offices for additional information.

How much does it cost?
There is no charge for these services.
