One in every four adults suffers from a mental illness, and many of these people are uninsured and/or living below the poverty level. Mental illness is defined as a psychiatric condition that disrupts a person’s thinking, feeling, mood, ability to relate to others, and daily functioning. It often results in a diminished capacity for coping with the ordinary demands of life. Some common conditions include:
- Major Depression
- Schizophrenia
- Bipolar Disorder
- Panic Disorder
- Traumatic Stress Disorder
- ADHD
Mental illness is not related to a person’s character or intelligence. It is a biologically based disorder that cannot be overcome through “will power” alone.
Through its long established programs, the Abraham Lincoln Centre offers a wide range of services to children and adults who have been diagnosed with behavioral challenges. We are here to help and are committed to preparing people for life, ready for tomorrow.
